I once wrote a blog about gratefulness (I will re-share it in this calendar tomorrow). It was about the feeling of joy and fulfilment that I felt.

Honestly, It took me a while to find out the how to get to that feeling. I initially did an automatic pilot kind of gratefulness practice. I would write down 3 things quickly. In this way, I checked the box ✅ and could go to sleep 😴🛌.

This is how I turned my mechanical practice into a valuable one:

  • I’m grateful that my friend M gave me a good metaphor, in order to help me coping with a huge project ahead of me.
  • I’m grateful for the delicious cappuccino this morning.
  • I’m grateful for the time I spend today with helping my son with his school exam in French.

But, I forgot to think about WHY I was grateful for this. Therefore, I added:

  • She helped me looking at the project as if it was divided into many small pieces.
  • I only drink one or 2 coffees a day and I love it when they taste really good.
  • It truly helped my son to get a good grade which supports him in his self-confidence.

And still, I wasn’t there yet, I needed to get to my FEELING about this. What did this do to me? This means:

  • It made me feel confident that I’m able to finish my project on time.
  • It made me feel that by making a good cappuccino, I was taking good care of myself and this felt to me as allowing myself a moment of relaxation.
  • I feel valuable and happy to be able to contribute in this way in my sons life. Doing this together always feels to me as a mother/son connection and as he’s growing older these moments become more rare. So, I treasure the moments that are still there.

And then I finally found my JOY in this.
