CHOICES
What was your answer when as a child someone asked you: “What do you want to become when you grow up?”
My answer was, without any doubt: fashion designer.
As a child I could spend hours in a book store scrolling through magazines admiring the latest designs from Chanel, Dior, YSL and many more. I created beautiful dresses myself, handmade with a few thousands of sequins and small beads. The embroidery in the pictures that are guiding this blog are from my hand. They are part of evening dresses that I made when I was 18/19 years old. I was talented, I won several prices with my designs and….. I stopped following my dream.
Why? Choices.
I now see my children struggling with choices at school. To them it feels like they make choices for a lifetime. They feel dazzled by all their possibilities and are afraid that if they open a door to one alternative they might shut another door forever. And certainly this can be the case for some opportunities. But it doesn’t mean that their choices are rigid. It doesn’t mean they’re chained to it for a life time.
Everytime when we make a choice in our life there will be consequences and a new path will be opened to us.
Now, years later, I see the side road that I took myself. It made me learn and grow, but it didn’t push away the things that have always been in my heart. I did silence them for a while, but I never lost them, as we cannot lose what our heart truly desires.
Will I start designing again? I don’t know. For now I found a way to express my creative self in writing.
As fluid as life is, tomorrow I might just find a different track.
I still dream and I still believe my dreams can come true.
