Like a hamster on a wheel

Imagine a hamster in a cage with a treadmill.
The wheel of the treadmill just goes on and on.
That’s what life sometimes feels like.
I keep on spinning, I look at my to-do list once more.
Just the look of it makes me indecisive.
I allow the list to grow under my hands.
It’s so easy to add another task to it.
The list waits patiently.
The list pushes me to feel more stress.
The list, the list, the list.
I start feeling cramped and overwhelmed.
This is no good.

I decide to unravel my list.
What’s on there?
Is it all that big of a deal?
Do I really think all these tasks are necessary?
Can I skip one?
Or maybe two?
How can I downsize my list?
What will happen if I add a bit of joy to it?
It won’t bite me, will it?
And what about those tasks that are real important, can I make them light?
Can I even make them joyful?
What would it feel like if I stop spinning in the endless treadmill of my to-do list and start living in the wide openness of my to-JOY list?

I decide to go for the second one.
I instantly feel my shoulders and jaws relax.
An inner smile comes up.

As from today, I quit living to-do, instead, I now live to-JOY!

Will you join me in this choice?

And then, you’re on your own.

Do you recall a situation when you were suddenly on your own? * Leaving your parents’ house when you went to university?* The loss of a loved one?* A divorce? There are many situations in which we all of a sudden feel left alone. I’m currently in such a situation. I left my job, my…

MOVE!

One of my friends is a cyclist. I never understood the fun of cycling. To me cycling is not particularly fun, a bike is a way to transport me from A to B. Last September, when we had some beautiful sunny days, I thought of going for a swim at a local outdoor swimming pool.…

DON’T STOP ME NOW (CAUSE I’M HAVING A GOOD TIME)

“Don’t stop me now” – Queen 1978 “Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time, I feel alive”. I’m cutting through every safety cord that I had left. I feel insecure, but also determined.  If I truly want to be free, I need to release all boundaries.I did the thing that scared me most:…
