The driving force of being

What hidden treasure unfolds for you when you allow yourself to be?

I had a full day of nothing ahead of me. The luxury of an empty calendar. So, while having my first coffee of the day, I started planning in my head. First, finishing the book that I was reading, then bring it back to the library. Afterwards go for a walk and buy flowers on the way back. I was automatically planning my day with doing, not with being.

Realizing what I did, I decided to take a different approach for the day.

Instead of following my list of doing, I went for an attentive walk. I walked a familiair path but spotted new things.

The waves created by a boat that passed by on the canal and the counterwaves that were created when they reached the shore. A rusty, abandoned bike that must have been there for ages but that I had never noticed before.

At a certain point my mind took over again and started being judgemental. With a lot of sarcasm, it said something to me like: “Well, so now you’re being and not doing, well done, the harvest you gain from it is the view of a rusty old bike. Congratulations. What value does this rusty bike bring you? None!”.

I tried to ignore my constantly chattering mind.

I spotted a ladybug on a huge leaf which was interesting to see, because of the lack of proportion. I spotted someone having lunch, smiling friendly at me when I passed by.

And I spotted this blog. Suddenly it was there, it unfolded itself right in front of me. It felt as if it were offered to me because I took the time and the attention to notice it.

I always say that I don’t write my blogs. They appear to me. They’re suddenly there and the only action from my side is to write them down, to trust them to a piece of paper. This is exactly what happened to me that day when I decided to stop doing and chose being.

The grateful feeling that came along with it was a bonus.

MY PORSCHE Last summer I saw a Porsche in Whistler. It was parked in front of the hotel where my daughter was doing an internship and it immediately stole my heart. THIS was going to be my Porsche one day. It had a special colour blue, greyish blue, which felt just like the right colour…

A little gesture means the world

Last year I was facilitating a storytelling training with my co-host bestie. When he entered the room he gave me this card. It was a simple caring gesture of kindness and it immediately created the positive energy that we always feel when facilitating together.  Sometimes this is litterally just all that it takes. What can…

LET LOVE RULE!

I did an internship in Tunisia when I was 21. In the mornings, I drove to my work to an inland fashion factory. In the evenings, to pay for my rent, I had an extra job, working at the Ruspina hotel animation team, entertaining the hotel quests with sketches, dancing, singing. Back then and there,…
