Reculer pour mieux sauter

In French there’s an expression ‘reculer pour mieux sauter’. It means, freely translated, that if you do something once again, you have a better base for taking your next step. For instance if you do a class over at highschool your base of knowledge is more stable and from there you can make a bigger jump further.

We tend to want to live our lives in the fast lane, always eager for our next promotion.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t chase this promotion, please do!

But,…..

What I’ve learned from life is that exactly in these times of taking a step back, I was able to ‘sauter mieux’ because by re-tuning in on who I am, I found out that chasing some promotion might not have been the right step for me. I couldn’t see this while being on the never ending promotion train. But I could clearly see it when I was on the marshaling yard for a while.

In the summer holidays we look back. We review the past period and overthink what we’ve achieved.

If you were expecting a promotion but wasn’t awarded with it, if you missed an exam, or struggled with something else and didn’t succeed, then I invite you to just think of it as reculer pour mieux sauter. Just be patient this summer and make new plans.

Your giant jump will follow!

And then, you’re on your own.

Do you recall a situation when you were suddenly on your own? * Leaving your parents’ house when you went to university?* The loss of a loved one?* A divorce? There are many situations in which we all of a sudden feel left alone. I’m currently in such a situation. I left my job, my…

MOVE!

One of my friends is a cyclist. I never understood the fun of cycling. To me cycling is not particularly fun, a bike is a way to transport me from A to B. Last September, when we had some beautiful sunny days, I thought of going for a swim at a local outdoor swimming pool.…

DON’T STOP ME NOW (CAUSE I’M HAVING A GOOD TIME)

“Don’t stop me now” – Queen 1978 “Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time, I feel alive”. I’m cutting through every safety cord that I had left. I feel insecure, but also determined.  If I truly want to be free, I need to release all boundaries.I did the thing that scared me most:…
